A visa is a document issued by a country giving a certain individual permission to formally request entrance to the country during a given period of time and for certain purposes.

Most countries require possession of a valid visa as a condition of entry for foreigners. But to visit the Seychelles you do not require pre-visit visa applications. You will get a free visa on arrival at the airport valid for one month.

Local Music:-
Music and dance are an integral part of all Seychelles festivities. Creole music and dance have their roots both in African, Malagasy and European cultures. The music is played to the accompaniment of drums such as the Tambour and Tamtam and simple string instruments. Foreign influence has introduced the violin and guitar, both of which play a prominent role in today's music. The popular local dance, the Sega, danced to the rhythm beaten on the drums, features an energetic shuffling of the feet and swaying of the hips. The colorful lyrics recount simple daily events. The traditional Moutya is an erotic dance derived from the days of slavery when it was perhaps the only way for the slaves to express themselves, something they did brazenly with slow and suggestive movements at gatherings on the beach under the moonlight.
One foreign dance import is the Kanmtole, which is danced to the accompaniment of banjos, accordion, violin and triangle and which is faintly reminiscent of a Scottish reel. One component is the Contredance, an import from the French court. This dance is accompanied by banjo, triangle and the instructions of the ‘Komandan’ or Commander who calls the sets.

Culture and Cuisines:-
The cosmopolitan Seychellois are a colourful and harmonious blend of different races, deriving from the Africans, Europeans and Asian roots, all of whom have brought something of their own customs and way of life to the islands. The result is a charming Creole culture enriched from the melting pot of many continents, and the broad range of Creole cuisine is an eloquent reflection of the diverse ethnic mix of the island. It features the subtleties and nuances of French cooking, the exoticism of Indian dishes and the piquant flavours of the orient. Take a bite out of a grilled fish, well-marinated in a sauce of crushed chilli, ginger and garlic it is as delicious as a tasty dish of octopus and chicken curry well prepared in a magical spice...the coconut milk which gives it the finest taste of all.
Creole cuisine is resourceful, echoing a time before supermarkets. Chatinis, made from grated green fruits offer a tasty accompaniment to fish or meat dishes, while mangoes, golden apples, coconut products, heart of palms, tubers and local delicacies such as octopus and fruit-bat form an impressive culinary array.

Transport(moving from one place to another):-
On Mahé, our main transportation is by bus, cars, and bicycles or even by foot, you choose. But since Mahe is quite a big island and the places are far away from each other, we advise you to either take our bus services which are operated daily on both Mahe and Praslin between 0530-2030hrs, at only 3 rupees per trip for the local ones, but the air-conditioned bus cost a little much, 5-7rupees depending upon your destination.

Or, taxis and car hire representative offices are available at the airport as well as in Victoria, but a valid international or E.U driving licence is required to drive. Vehicles are driven on the left hand side of the road.

If you want to go for visit on other island; Air Seychelles offers you with a daily domestic service to five neighbouring islands.

There are also chartered aeroplanes and helicopter flights and a shuttle service to the inner and outer islands are available from the domestic airport, on Mahe.

Marine Parks/ Marine Life:-

Set up amid dazzling turquoise waters about 5km from the main island of Mahe, is the South Western Indian Ocean's First Marine Protected Area; the Sainte Anne Marine National Park. This marine reserve encompasses a group of 6 tranquil and charming islands. The park protects one of the largest areas of sea grass meadows in the granitic islands and it is not uncommon to see green turtles feeding on them. Lucky visitors may even spot hawksbill turtles in the waters and on the shores of this park which remains one of the most important nesting sites for hawksbill turtles in the Granitic islands.

The islands of this park are full of history. Sainte Anne, the largest island is the site for the first settlement that was established by the French in 1770. During the Second World War this island served as a refueling base for the Royal Marines that assured the defense of Victoria. In the early decades of the 19th century, Sainte Anne was also used as a base for whaling activity in the Seychelles. Now, happily the Indian Ocean is a whale sanctuary. Sainte Anne Island also served as Headquarters for the former Marine Parks Authority (1996-2001) and also hosted the Shoals of Capricorn Marine Research Programmers. Cerf Island, the second largest island of this park, was named after one of the earliest French ships that visited Seychelles. Visitors relish the island's excellent Creole restaurants.

Though privately owned by Mr. Grimshaw, the famous, tiny Moyenne Island is only accessible through organized-excursions whereby you will be able to tour the island as well as dine a very nice Creole buffet.

Close by is Round Island, that was once an isolation centre for leprosy sufferers. Today, the island boasts popular Creole Restaurant and also serves as a base for rangers managing this park. The SCMRT-MPA also mans a Visitors Centre that provides visitors with a wide array of information covering history, conservation efforts etc... Long island has always been a place of involuntary isolation; it was formerly a quarantine station, then it houses the National Prison and today another 5star hotel has been planned to be constructed on this very own island, where as for Ile Cachée, it remains un spoilt and uninhabited.

Big game fishing:-

The big- game and fly fishing is a big business in the Seychelles. Top spot for big game is the edge of the Seychelles Bank, where the ocean floor plunges to 1,800 metres. The nearest islands are Bird and Denis, but charters also sail out from Mahe. Many record-breaking dog-tooth tuna have been snagged here, as well as huge marlin, sail fish and sharks without number. The best catches are usually between November and April.

You can find the best deals in boat and charters from Holidays Seychelles. In Seychelles there are 75 boat charter and 22 yacht charters companies. If you enjoy fishing the Seychelles is the place to be

Unknown said...

Fly Fishing:-

The outer island of Alphonse is universally acknowledge as the best place to indulge in fly fishing for bonefish, which generally weigh around six kilos and are doughty fighters once hooked. They swarm in such vast numbers that even beginners have been known to catch 20 in a single day.

A strict catch-and-release policy is in force and fly fishers may use only barbless hooks. The season runs from September to June. Ensure that you have adequate photographic equipment if you dont want to miss the big ones. Alphonse Island is 650kilo meters away from Mahe Island and the trip is normally by plane and has to be organised in advance.

Land:-

One of the biggest conservation NGOs in the Seychelles is Nature Seychelles, who aim to improve the plight of Seychelles wildlife and plant life through education and research. They have had many successes recently through protected area management projects on certain islands and hawksbill turtle monitoring programmed.

The Seychelles is an archipelago of 72 low-lying coral islands and 43 mountainous granite islands. But 90% of its 80,410 population live on just one of these islands, Mahe. With that island's rocky interior unsuitable for development, the limited coastal zone attracts most of the construction, whether for homes, hotels or new roads. And this often has negative effects on coastal ecology. "Tourism," says the Seychelles report "is a primary cause of coastal erosion, mainly arising from attempts to cosmetically improve the beach and swimming areas, as well as the provision of marine facilities such as marinas and piers." And, while the government has passed a wide range of laws to protect the environment.

A non-profit, non-governmental organization registered in Seychelles, NPTS are working together to conserve the biodiversity of these unique islands. These conservation projects are based on informed scientific research which aims to protect species by protecting their habitats.

When Seychelles granitic islands became separated from these other land masses, the plants and animals evolved into unique species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. These are known as endemic species. Examples are the coco-de-mer, pandanus, the pitcher plant, sooglossuss frogs, wolf & house snakes and many fresh water animals.

In 1979, Morne Seychellois National Park was created to protect the endemic species, becoming the largest terrestrial park in Seychelles. Covering a total area of 3,045 ha, more than 20% of the area of Mahé from sea level to the highest peak (905m).

Morne Seychellois National Park is probably the most important forest in the Seychelles, because of its water catchments area and rich biodiversity. The forest has a mixture of indigenous and exotic species. A trail network was developed in the National Park to promote the discovery of these wonders by locals and tourists alike. It boasts a wide variety of landscapes, panoramic views, a unique flora and fauna, and ruins of the colonial times.

Weather :-

The Seychelles is in the tropics 4 degrees south of the equator. The islands lie outside the earth quake zone, volcanic zones and the cyclone belt but we usually receive monsoon rains from November to April with the northwest trade winds. This hot and humid season gives way to a period of cooler weather, though the temperature never falls below 23°C (73°F), and rougher seas when the trade winds blow from the southeast (May to October). The peak of the rainy season is between Januarys to February.

Tropical lightweights, with rainwear are advisable during the rainy season (Jan to Feb). Sun hats and sunglasses are essential all year round, but remember that it’s not every day that the weather will be in your favor…since Seychelles is a lush tropical environment, there is no doubt that short-lived tropical showers may occur at any time. Seychellois normally dress smart casual.

Where to visit:-

Mahe is the main island where most of the habitants can be found, why not your holiday start on this granitic island and visit the busy little capital (Victoria) one Saturday morning when its lively and well decorated. It is an island of powdery white sands with altogether 70 most beautiful beaches and lush vegetation, rising through plantations of coconut palms, tea and cinnamon to forested peaks that afford unparalleled views of neighboring islands.

Excursions can be made in glass-bottomed boats from Victoria to nearby St Anne Marine National Park, which encloses the islands of St Anne, Beacon (classified as a nature reserve), Cerf (offering accommodation in chalets and renowned for Creole food), Long (closed to the public), Round (reputed for its tuna steaks) and Moyenne (privately owned, but open to visiting tourists); or by coach, taking in such attractions as the market, the Botanical Gardens (with coco-de-mer, giant tortoises and orchids), and a replica of London’s Vauxhall Bridge Tower in Victoria, before setting off around the island to visit colonial-style mansions in graceful decline, old plantations of cinnamon and vanilla, and everywhere the greenest of vibrant green jungles. Tourists may also visit the Morne Seychellois National Park, occupying the highest part of the island.

The National Museum in Victoria celebrates Seychellois history, folklore and music, and has particularly fine displays depicting the history of spice cultivation.

Or, let’s take a 15minutes flight or an hour trip in the fast catamaran from Mahé
And go all the way to Praslin, the second-largest island in the Seychelles. Famous for the great Garden of Eden the Vallée de Mai, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which contains the double-nut of coco-de-mer palm. Regular excursions are available to smaller islands such as Aride, Cousin, Curieuse and La Digue, another one choice of island where we advise you not to miss.

Only 30 minutes from Praslin, this beautiful island of La Digue is the breeding ground of the rare black paradise flycatcher. There are very few cars and the ox-cart remains the principal means of transport (although bicycles may be hired). There are beautiful old plantation houses, such as Château Saint-Cloud, as well as a vanilla plantation, copra factories and superb beaches.

Or if you are a nature lover, we have organized walks and trails that will help you to discover our endemic species, or better yet if you prefer the sea, then why not go out snorkeling, diving or even sailing, and get to experience the real life atmosphere of Seychellois people.
And you can do all that just by booking your holiday with the Holidays Seychelles.

seychelles my beloved country is very beautiful...it has lots of magnificent beaches and extraordinary places to visit like the Vallée de mai on Praslin, Anse source d'argent on La Digue and much more...the Botanical garden is simply a must to see with lots of endemic plants like the famous coco de mer and the endemic palms. A trip around the small and busy town is just like you are taking a trip to heaven...the place is so colourful and quite crowded with everyone bustling around doing their daily chores. A full day around the town visiting all of the souvenir shops will make u hungry. There are quite a few restaurants around town like the famous pirate arms restaurant if your a pizza lover and the restaurant Marie Antoinette which is simply the best place for a lunch, to taste the mouthwatering creole dishes if you love ur rice and love tasting new gastronomy and much more délicatesse. U simply must come to the Seychelles because this is just not another place,it's simply another world to be....
